iPhone Duo adaptation progress / minimum supported iOS version changing.

Hello all,

Work on adapting E6BJet to the new iPhone Duo is going faster than expected, and we expect to have a new release (2.80) available before the end of November 2026.
We now expect that 2.80 will also appear correctly on the iPhone Duo – initially we thought we would have this working only with version 3.00 of E6BJet. See this post for more.

The Apple platforms have evolved since E6BJet was first released in 2020. For us, the introduction of the iPhone Duo, and Apple’s desire for apps to be fully resizable on any platform is the change in the last seven years that is most consequential for E6BJet. We had intentionally designed the app to look exactly the same regardless of the device it runs on. The thinking was that an aircraft cockpit layout does not change over time, making information and controls consistently easy to find and fast to use.

Release 2.80 will keep the familiar layout intact, and preliminary tests show that this will also be the case for the iPhone Duo. The bottom bar will see very minor changes in appearance.

It will however not be reasonably feasible to maintain support for iOS versions older than 17.0. We will now align with Apple’s practice of supporting the current and two preceding iOS versions.
In practical terms, this means that users who have an original iPhone SE or other device with a 4-inch display will not be able to upgrade to E6BJet 2.80. E6BJet 2.70 will continue to work on those iPhones.

We are taking a long and hard look at how to proceed with E6BJet to meet the resizeablity guidelines, which involve dynamically laying out the position of displayed information and controls depending on the available space and orientation of the device.

Thank you for your continued interest in E6BJet, and please keep your feedback coming. See bottom left of this page for support/contact information.

Regards, and happy landings
